Ammonium Sulphate/Sulphate of Ammonia

Ammonium Sulphate/Sulphate of Ammonia

Ammonium Sulphate or Sulphate of Ammonia is a fast acting highly soluble high nitrogen fertiliser.  It contains 21% Nitrogen and  60% Sulphur (SO3) or 24% S.

Since the mid 1990's both industry and transport has cleaned it's emissions up, and where we once got ample supplies of sulphur through natural rainfall (acid rain), this no longer the case. Many plants will now benefit from the regular application of sulphur.

Typical application rates:

  • Lawns: 25 gramms per metre squared, try to apply immediately before rain fall or watering will be required to get the best results
  • Vegetables: 35 gramms per metre squared, applied as a surface top dressing and thoroughly incorporated into the soil prior to planting
  • Flowers: 35 gramms per metre squared. Gently rake or fork in around well established plants and shrubs, avoiding direct contact with foliage.
  • As a foliar feed 1-3 table spoons in 4 litres of water, applied via a watering can with a fine rose or through a garden sprayer.

Very useful on alkaline soils as it has acidifying properties making it an ideal fertiliser for ericaceous plants including rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, heathers, pieris & the every increasing popular blueberry.

The acidifying properties of ammonium sulphate can cause scorch if it comes in to direct contact directly with leaf foliage, stems or roots.
